Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHWB)

Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) in Sweden dissolved 31 December 2025. This does not apply to CHwB in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo who continue with their activities and operations.

The main reason to dissolve CHwB Sweden is the lack of funding for culture heritage projects in areas of conflict – the mission of the foundation.

Since CHwB was founded in Sweden 1995, we have implemented projects in the Balkans, Palestine, and in the recent years in Ukraine. The goal of the cooperation with Ukraine was to develop methods to document heritage war crimes, and to capacitate persons with different professions and functions to contribute and report war crimes in times of crisis and war. The Maidan Museum has received our remaining funds to continue this work.

To communicate experiences from our work in the Balkans and in Ukraine a conference will be held together with Blue Shield 5 May 2026 in Stockholm.

The decision to dissolve CHwB Sweden has been necessary, but regrettable. The need for actions which is CHwB’s mission, are not reduced – rather heritage is in crisis in many countries.
