Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) is an independent non-governmental organisation founded in Sweden in 1995. The organisation aims to safeguard cultural property in the event of armed conflicts, natural disasters, neglect, poverty, or political and social conflicts. Today we are four independent foundations in Sweden (CHwB S), Bosnia and Herzegovina (CHwB BIH), Kosovo (CHwB K) and Albania (CHwB A).
We have a joint international board of directors (CHwB IB) where we discuss common matters, both challenges and opportunities, and give mutual support. We work independently, and we work together. Right now, the four of us are involved in a project that aims at building capacity in Ukraine to safeguard damaged cultural heritage or heritage at risk by the ongoing war.
Our mission is to promote cultural heritage as a right and a resource treated with respect. CHwB cooperates with civil society and institutions at all levels to strengthen peacebuilding, promote sustainable socio-economic and democratic development, and for the realisation of human rights.
