Syria is a country at war, but it is much more than that. The country has an age-old oral tradition that is passed on by storytellers. This identity heritage is of great cultural value and also important for understanding society in a historical perspective and to understand and interpret their contemporaries.
CHwB and Ljungby Storytelling Festival presents two performances that aims to preserve and pass on a part of Syria’s thousands of years of cultural heritage:
Sausanas Stories
A story for adults (from 15 years) with the Syrian storyteller Nemer Salamoun that mixes memories from the war in Syria and traditional foktales in a gripping performance.

al-Hakawati – the Storyteller

Syrian folk tales and legends, for children (from 8 years) and adults
Come and listen to the Syrian stories – about camels and black ducks, seeking the fortune in Damascus and to outwit the lion, the girl who became a dog and wife who played dead …
Syrian refugees have contributed their stories in this performance that is part of the project ”al-Hakawati – the storyteller”, which aims to preserve and pass on some of Syria’s thousands of years of cultural heritage.
An anthology of stories in Arabic and English will be distributed and an exhibition will tell us more about the project.
Cooperation between Cultural Heritage without Borders, Hakaya, the Arab Education Forum, ARCPA/AL-JANA, al-Balad Theatre and Fabula Storytelling.
